Drake Ross

Drake Ross was the oldest of David and Dana Ross’s three sons, approximately two years older than Danny Ross and eight years older than Darren Ross. He was treated as the favored child in the Ross household, receiving money, new clothing, furniture, and parental approval that his brothers were denied.

Early Life and Family Role

Drake grew up in Portland with Danny and Darren. By 2013, he was about twenty and attending college. His time there centered more on drinking, drugs, parties, and social life than on academics.

Drake was neat, polished, broad-built, charismatic, and accustomed to carrying himself as though he controlled the room. David and Dana’s favoritism placed him outside the scapegoating directed at Danny and the neglect directed at Darren. The resulting disparity shaped all three brothers even when Drake was not its author.

Family and Core Relationships

David Ross and Dana Ross

David and Dana favored Drake with attention, approval, money, allowances, and new belongings. Their treatment of him contrasted sharply with the worn clothing and hand-me-downs they imposed on Danny and Darren.

Danny Ross

Danny was Drake’s younger brother and the middle Ross son. Danny did not appear to blame Drake personally for their parents’ favoritism, but the brothers remained emotionally distant.

Drake joined David in taunting and undermining Danny and sometimes pressured Darren to participate. Darren usually resisted in small ways until one of Danny’s major CVS crises, after which he became an open supporter of Danny.

During that crisis, Darren found seventeen-year-old Danny barely responsive in the bathtub and begged Dana and Drake to call for help. Drake told Darren to calm down and insisted Danny only needed to get up; Darren dialed 911 himself. Drake scoffed when Dana sent him for towels, then fetched them after she shouted at him. Even after Danny’s hospitalization, Drake sided with David in minimizing the illness while Dana and Darren tried to support Danny’s recovery.

Darren Ross

Darren was Drake’s youngest brother. He did not hate Drake, but he understood that Drake had been allowed to be enough in a household where Darren was overlooked and Danny was treated as a failure. Drake’s role in pressuring Darren to join the ridicule also widened the distance between them.

Darren feared becoming like Drake in accepting unequal treatment without noticing who was deprived or harmed. He understood that favoritism itself had not been Drake’s choice; what he feared was complacency and complicity. That fear strengthened his determination to share, attend to other people’s needs, and defend Danny rather than remain silent.

Caleb Ross

Drake was Caleb’s paternal uncle. He remained only loosely connected to Caleb after Danny’s death and did not become a meaningful part of his nephew’s daily life.
